Why Gutters At All?

When rain falls on the roof of our house and is not shuttled away by a gutter system, it saturates the foundation. Gutters can help control erosion and wood rot on the lower portions of houses. Houses that do not have gutters can sometimes suffer from erosion problems in heavy rains and wipe out expensive landscaping. In addition, the constant splashing of water against wood siding or stucco can lead to wood rot or efflorescence on stucco.

What Happens When Gutters Get Clogged?

Clogged gutters can lead to some expensive home problems.

1) Cracks in the foundation can occur when water pools around the foundation

2) Any wood fascia that exists around your house can start rotting due to clogged gutters. And quicker than you might think. Even within just hours, stagnant water can cause the wood to start breaking down and decomposing, causing serious problems. Replacing all of the wood fascia around your home could cost thousands of dollars.

3) Sagging Driveways – clogged gutters can result in pooling water that breaks down the concrete from the top. This might cause sagging driveways or even large cracks down the center.

4) Ruined Landscaping – Landscaping is expensive. And it can be destroyed in a few weeks by clogged gutters. The water exits the gutters with sufficient force to dig holes in your flower beds and gardens, resulting in over-watered plants and unsightly dips in the topography of your yard.

5) Insects – Insects love moisture and humidity. When your gutters are clogged, you have provided the perfect breeding ground for insects of all kinds.
